"Is there school tomorrow?"
Tell Elira when your school year runs and confirm your closure list is complete, and she answers "is there school tomorrow?" herself instead of sending it to your office.
"Is there school tomorrow?" is the question families text most — and the hardest one for Elira to answer, because a calendar prints the days you're closed and never the two hundred ordinary mornings in between. Nothing on file says anything about a normal Monday, so that question went to your office every time.
The card "Is there school tomorrow?" on AI Knowledge fixes that. It takes about thirty seconds.
Setting it up
- First day of the school year and last day of the school year. If you've uploaded a calendar with a "First day of term" on it, both are already filled in — check them and move on.
- Tick "Every closure and half day for this school year is on file."
That's it. The green line at the top of the card tells you what Elira is doing right now, and names the next school day she would give a family.
What she'll say
For any date inside your school year that you haven't marked closed, on a weekday your school hours cover, Elira answers plainly: *"Yes, there's school tomorrow — 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM."* No message to your office, no waiting.
She still says nothing about:
- a date you have marked as a closure — she gives the closure instead
- a half day or anything with a dated note on it — your own words for that day win
- a weekend, or a weekday your school hours don't cover
- any date outside your school year
The tick is a statement, not a switch
It matters what you're confirming. Elira will tell families school is open on any date inside your year that isn't marked closed — so a holiday missing from your calendar becomes her telling families to send their children in.
That's why nothing is derived until you tick it, and why it's worded the way it is. Until you do, every "is there school?" keeps going to your office exactly as it does today. Untick it any time and she goes straight back to asking you.
The confirmation runs out with your school year. Next August, set the new dates and tick it again.
Snow days and last-minute closings
No calendar knows about those, and this doesn't either. Post a dated note on AI Knowledge — *"Closed today, snow"* — and it overrides everything else for that day, including this. That's the one thing to reach for when you close at 6am.
