Getting started

The two policies we need before anything runs

Your Parents’ Bill of Rights and your §121.5 data security policy. Your §2-d Addendum doesn’t take effect until both are attached — and nothing runs until it does.

Your NY Education Law §2-d Addendum has one condition before it takes effect: your school supplies two of its own documents. Until both are attached your agreement is signed but dormant — we don't connect to your student information system, no roster is read, and no family is contacted.

This isn't us being cautious. It is what §7(a) of the Addendum you signed actually says.

What we need

1. Your Parents' Bill of Rights for Data Privacy and Security Your school's own adopted and published version. Most schools already have one on their website — that published PDF is exactly right. It attaches to your Addendum as Annex 1, which 8 NYCRR §121.3(b) requires to accompany every contract like ours.

2. Your data security and privacy policy adopted under §121.5 Our own security plan — Exhibit A of your Addendum — has to be consistent with yours, and §121.9(a)(2) obliges us to comply with it. We can't be consistent with a document we have never seen.

How to attach them

SettingsYour two required policies → Attach document. PDF or Word, up to 10 MB. If your policy lives on a web page, your browser's Print → Save as PDF produces the right file.

Replacing a document later keeps a record of the previous one, so you always have a clear history of what was attached and when.

We can't write these for you

Your agreement says so in as many words: *"AskElira cannot supply either on the School's behalf."* There is no template here and no AI draft, and that is deliberate — a Parents' Bill of Rights written by your vendor isn't your school's adopted policy, it's a vendor document with your name on it. If your school hasn't adopted a §121.5 policy yet, every New York educational agency is required to have one, and NYSED publishes guidance and a model. Your authorizer can usually point you at what your network already uses.

What happens once both are in

The setup checklist item goes green, the Settings card reads Addendum in effect, and your roster sync and family messaging become available for the rest of go-live. Nothing else changes — this gate only ever stood between you and starting.

Signed but not started? That's normal, and it's fixable in about two minutes. It's the one setup step that has nothing to do with our software and everything to do with your school's own paperwork.
